5 must-do items for your 2023 leadership agenda

Are you ready for 2023?

Me neither. But the reality is it’s less than 8 weeks away.
Whaaaaaaaaaat?  I know right.

So what’s on your agenda for 2023?

Have you started to think about what you want to do…? What you hope to do…? What you need to do…?

One thing that we know for sure is that the world of work is not going to get any simpler, slower or easier for leaders in 2023 and that the leadership that got us here won’t get us there – it won’t get us to where we need to be.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again here: leadership is broken and we need a new way to lead.

This was just one of the uncomfortable truths that emerged from research I was involved with recently that explored how leaders can foster psychosocial safety in Australian workplaces.

With new psychosocial safety legislation coming into force, this is going to be a big-ticket agenda item for leaders in 2023.

The other uncomfortable truths that emerged from the research data were:

  1. the need to move beyond tick box compliance in caring for our people at work
  2. the importance of leaders’ clarity and communication of their intentions
  3. the critical role of psychological safety at all levels – individual, team and organisation culture
  4. the reality that this work needs to be done with, rather than to or for our people – and the legislation actually mandates this.

So what can leaders do to escape falling into the traps that avoiding these uncomfortable truths create?

That’s exactly what I address in a discussion paper based on the research findings – Fostering Psychosocial Safety at Work, which you can download here.

If you are looking for ideas to level up your leadership agenda or the leadership agenda in your workplace for 2023, this discussion paper is a great place to start.

Until next time…
